Bahu
('Abundant') The Creative Mother, seen as the constellation Leo or the
star Denebola.
Bala
A Hindu mother goddess.
Banka-Mundi
A hunting goddess in India.
Basuli
An aboriginal goddess of Orissa, depicted in the Kandagir caves as standing
on a lotus, nude.
Bera Pennu
Vegetation goddess of the Khond (Bengal) who in the past sacrificed
humans to her.
Bhadra
A Hindu goddess, and attendant of Shiva.
Bhairavi
('the terrible') Goddess of terror.
Bharani
Another Hindu goddess of misfortune. The daughter of Daksha and consort
of Chandra.
Bharat Mata
A modern Hindu mother goddess.
Bharati
A Hindu goddess of speech. She is occasionally mentioned as the consort
of Ganesha, and identified with Parvati.
Bhatta
A Hindu goddess of sorcery.
Bhavani
One of the three terrible aspects of Parvati, with Bhowani and Parasu-Pani.
She is the Hindu and Tnatric mother goddess known as the Triple Universe.
Depicted with sun and moon at her breasts, or as a young woman crowned
and containing within her body a landscape showing the sea, the sun
and the moon. She is also shown as the dark aspect of Parvati, with
a necklace of skulls. Her festival, Diwali (The Feast of Lamps) is celebrated
on the new moon of Kartik (Oct./Nov.) Items associated with her are
Star sapphire, pearl, cypress, opium poppy, woman, silver, myrrh, and
civet.
Bhumi
A Hindu earth goddess, conceived as one of seven sisters, following
the Vedic view that there are three heavens, three earths and a fourth
earth which is Bhumi. She is the mother of all living things and of
the planet Mars. Sometimes equated with Privthi, she is associated with
Vahara, the boar avatar of Vishnu.
Bhumidevi
A Hindu fertility goddess. She is the second wife of Vishnu (or of his
avatara Krishna) and the mother of Naraka.
Bhutamata
A Hindu demon goddess. She is a form of Parvati.
Bhuvanesvari
A Hindu goddess, one of the ten mahavidyas.
Bibi Miriam
('Lady Mary') In some parts of India the Virgin Mary is included in
the Hindu pantheon.
Biliku
Creatress of the Earth. Andamanese Islands Goddess. Kindly and fearsome,
She sometimes appeared in a spider's form. She was the first to own
fire.
Bombay Kamayan
A local goddess of disease of Gaya.
Brahmani
A Hindu mother goddess. She was considered a Sakti at first, later an
astamatara, or mother.
Buddhi
A goddess representing the intellect and intuition. She is one of the
wives of Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of good fortune, the other
wife being Siddhi (acheivement).
Budhi Pallien
A forest goddess in North India who roamed the jungle in the form of
a tiger.
